Andrew Lloyd Webber will search for his next new musical star on ITV, after the commercial broadcaster poached him from the BBC.
The impresario is looking for the lead in his new project – a revival of his 1971 classic Jesus Christ Superstar.
The winner will take top billing in a special arena tour of the rock opera, which will open at the O2 in London and play at the UK’s biggest venues.
Lloyd Webber said: “Presenting a new, 2012 version of Jesus Christ Superstar for arenas is truly exciting.
“Some of the best performances of this show have been in rock venues and I’m thrilled to see the show return to its roots. ITV is providing the perfect platform for us to find a new, British superstar.
The format will be similar to Lloyd Webber’s previous BBC talent shows – The Sound of Music, Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat.
