Flying the nest: Kate Humble quits Springwatch

Popular presenter Kate Humble is quitting hit wildlife show Springwatch after seven successful years.

When the show returns in May, Michaela Strachan will host alongside Chris Packham, who replaced Bill Oddie in 2009, and Martin Hughes-Games.

Springwatch was an instant hit when it first aired in 2005.

The show’s four million fans enjoyed the bickering of bossy Oddie and bubbly Kate, and it quickly became a fixture on BBC2 and led to the launch of Autumnwatch.

A BBC spokesman insisted Kate could return in the future but insiders predict that like Oddie, who left to “take a breather” but has never returned, she would become caught up with her new projects.
