BRAVE ex-Miss Scotland finalist Sara McLean insists she feels LUCKY — despite having her leg shattered in an alleged hit-and-run horror.
The model was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary — where worried medics also performed tests for brain damage — after the incident early on Friday.
And yesterday former Big Brother star Sara, 23, revealed it will be MONTHS before she walks again.
But, in spite of her agony, she insists she feels fortunate — because her injuries could have been much worse.
Sara, of Edinburgh — who finished fourth in last year’s BB — said: “Initially doctors feared I had sustained brain damage but that was ruled out yesterday morning after lengthy tests.
“My left leg is broken in four places and, although that has been agony, I’m almost thankful it’s the only damage. I’m lucky to be alive.”
On Sunday, she bravely posted a snap of her favourite designer heels on Twitter — joking that she wouldn’t be wearing them any time soon.
She’s now been forced to put her burgeoning career on hold as she faces a slow recovery process following the 3am accident in central Edinburgh.
Sara said: “It will take me months to walk again but doctors have told me I should make a full recovery. My career has taken off since Big Brother and I want to keep that going. That’s my big motivation.
“I’ve got great family and friends around me who have been amazing as have all the staff at the hospital.”
We told in June how stunning Sara — a runner-up to Jennifer Reoch for the Miss Scotland crown in 2011 — posted online pics of herself cosying up to Celtic striker Tony Watt, fuelling speculation the pair were an item.
Police Scotland yesterday said: “A 23-year-old woman suffered serious injuries. She was taken to hospital where she continues to be treated.”
