Countryfile presenter Julia Bradbury is to quit the Sunday evening show that helped make her a household name.
The 43-year-old revealed yesterday that she has signed a deal with ITV to host a new five-part series about the landscape.
The move comes as the BBC faces losing another of its leading women presenters to its rival – Susanna Reid is rumoured to be about to quit BBC Breakfast to join ITV.
Miss Bradbury earned the nickname ‘the walking man’s crumpet’ through presenting many outdoor programmes for the BBC, including Wainwright Walks – based on the guidebooks by fell-walker Alfred Wainwright.
She has also presented Watchdog and joined Countryfile in 2009 when it moved from a morning to a prime-time slot. She is credited with helping the show to double its ratings.
