Tumble star John Partridge: My pain at mum’s Alzheimer’s

TV star John Partridge has told how he lost weight and battled depression while caring for his elderly mother.

John, a favourite to win the BBC’s gymnastics show Tumble, quit EastEnders in 2012 to look after mum Bridget, 79, who has Alzheimer’s.

He said: “It is a horrendous disease . There is nothing good to say about it. It progressively gets worse.

“Last year was very tough for me. We had to move Mum from her house and I took over as full-time carer.

“I had many months that were very dark and difficult and didn’t have the strength to focus on any projects.

“I just kept thinking, ‘What is the point of any of this?’

“When you see someone so close to you dying from the outside in, you ask a lot of questions.”
